KUORI (Finnish for “shell”) is a research project based on a sustainable, natural alternative material inspired by the banana peel. The material, which can be returned after use, is returned to nature according to the Cradle to Cradle principles.

But who is actually behind the project?

KUORI stands for a young, motivated team full of drive, which combines its interdisciplinary competencies in materials research, industrial design, management and communication design in order to come one step closer to the vision of a world based on the principle of circular economy.

While proceeding in this direction, we have overcome several hurdles. We will also be able to pay ourselves a small salary for the first time starting September 2021, which will be financed with the help of the Gebert Rüf Foundation under the First Ventures program. The funding program, which is specifically aimed at Bachelor and Master graduates, provides financial support in the first steps towards a start-up.

Under the direction and in close cooperation with the materials researcher Prof. Dr. Christian Rytka, we will be at the Institute for Plastics Technology, IKT for short, based in Windisch Brugg from September 1st, 2021. The focus here will be on the development of a biologically based and biodegradable shoe sole (after its use as a shoe sole, of course). We are convinced that with the combined forces of our large and constantly expanding network, we can achieve the milestone of the first prototype of the material in June 2022.

Do you know someone in the field of materials research? We are looking to expand our core team! Feel free to contact s.harbarth@hotmail.com

Would you like to see the research exhibits live? You are invited to the diploma exhibition of the Institute Industrial Design on the Dreispitz Campus (Freilager-Platz 1, 4142 Münchenstein, Switzerland).

When? From Saturday, September 18th, 2021 to Saturday, September 25th, 2021, the exhibit is open during the day. The diploma exhibition is located in the exhibition room of the Hochschule für Gestaltung, right next to the poster exhibition and across from the HEK building.
