Together with swissnex China, Creative Hub presented highlights from the Swiss creative industry at the Yangtze River Delta International Cultural Industries Expo 2020 (YRDICIE) in Shanghai. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exhibition successfully combined digital and analog formats.

YRDICIE is one of the largest fairs for the creative industries in China. The Expo was launched in 2018 and now takes place every year for four days on 54,000m2 in Shanghai.

In 2019 Creative Hub was invited to visit YRDICIE as a possible partner for the organization of an exhibition of Swiss creative work as part of the "Overseas Elite Selections" at YRDICIE 2020. After visiting YRDICIE 2019 (including a keynote on the creative industries in Switzerland) it was clear: In 2020 Creative Hub would enable Swiss creative companies to participate in the Expo!

YRDICIE 2020

Originally, an on-site exhibition in Shanghai with a wide selection of Swiss start-ups and creative companies was planned. The COVID-19 situation and travel restrictions forced us to switch to a digital space. The exhibition was reduced in size, but highlights from the Swiss creative industry could still be shown online and on site.

The following six companies were invited to show their work:

In cooperation with the FHNW China Center, the six companies were supported in their preparation and introduced to the customs of the Chinese market and Chinese culture.

During the expo, which took place from November 19-22, 2020, the six companies were able to present themselves digitally and live in front of an audience in Shanghai. In cooperation with Swissnex China, the presentations were also included in their Café des Sciences webinar series and broadcast online. In addition, YRDICIE offered companies business matchmaking sessions with trade visitors.

The matchmaking sessions in particular gave participants the opportunity to make contacts and gain a deeper insight into the Chinese market. The discussions resulted in numerous contacts that will be followed up in the coming weeks.

Looking back, the exhibition of Swiss creative work at YRDICIE 2020 can be considered a success: the exhibitors in China have gained visibility and were able to establish contacts with the Chinese market. The exhibition was met with a very positive response from both the organizers and visitors.

Creative Hub hopes that the cooperation with YRDICIE can be continued in 2021 and thus create a long-term platform for Swiss work in Shanghai.

Creative Hub thanks its partners swissnex China, Präsenz Schweiz and Pro Helvetia Shanghai for supporting the exhibition.
